The Difference Between Amateur And Champion/Olympian

Hi There

I am a Sport Scientist. I work with athletes and I have had the honor of interning in the National Rowing Program. I have learned and watched in awe how these Athletes work and strive for gold. I identify myself as a Sport Scientist and it is where my love and knowledge of movement starts. But foremost, I value the human being and everything we are and can achieve in our very small capacity. I believe this makes me different than most other Sport Scientists. To me the human spirit and attitude can against all odds help us perform and achieve more than what "papers", "data" and even "statistics" show us is possible.I believe this.

That said I always tell my athletes that being an athlete is not normal. You are either normal or your an athlete. You can not be both. If you want to read more on why I say this click here

There is a reason why being the CHAMPION/OLYMPIAN is a BIG deal. I mean if it was easy, believe me I would not be the scientist!!! There are more than just talent involved. There is a lot of discipline and sacrifice involved. And honestly not a lot of people can do it. Can sacrifice 4 years of "normal people fun" for a 6 minute race, 10 second race ect. That is the reality.

A Champion/Olympian does not blame anything but himself, then he corrects whatever needs to be corrected (technically, physically, emotionally, even mentally).
A Champion/Olympian listens to his body and puts it first.
A Champion/Olympian listens and applies what the coach says, even if he feels different.
A Champion/Olympian takes an educational interest in his performance
Champion/Olympian does not miss a practise session
Champion/Olympian gives his VERY best 100% at EVERY session.

Believe me the list goes on and on.

But my main point is that you need te be WILLING to be this way and do EVERYTHING that is required to be a Champion/Olympian. If not you are simply a amateur and as one myself it is ok. We can still perform at our best and give what we can, but do not make the mistake to compare yourself to the champions/Olympions. To be there or wanting to be there takes MORE than what you think and mere talent is not enough.

Keep Moving until next time👋
