Rolling With The Punches Just Got Real

Image
Hi There  Sometimes things do not go as planned. In fact they go way, way wrong. As a Sport Scientist I see this alot in the sporting environment. We train towards a goal/tournament and we lose due to a technicality or because of bad behaviour. What we need to understand is that there is so much factors that influence our performance. Most if not all to a degree we have no control over them.  This is why training for all of them is impossible but necessary. All the factors should be brought into training. That is why teams has game plan sessions and strategy planning. Because we need to prepare for the unexpected and unforeseen if possible.  The bad part is even if we train for the unsuspected we still have to deal with the technicalities and roll with the punches. As athletes we can not get hung up on the coach/Referee/officials. We still need to perform under scrutiny. We need to build up resilience and not let anything impact their performance.  Resilience is one thing that

Muscle Of The Week... Biceps Femoris

Image
Hi There This week's muscle is part of the Hammy Group.Affectionately known as the Hammys. But let me be clear. The Hammys are THREE SEPARATE muscles of which one is this week's muscle... The Biceps Femoris.By the name we know it has two "heads" or origins like last week's muscle: The Biceps Brachii  . I have to make a confession...I confused the Biceps Femoris with the Rectus Femoris; which is actually part of the Quads🙈🙊. That is why I love this series. It is a great way to review my anatomy. In a way that does not feel like studying. I mean I used to hate to study Anatomy... Especially because to understand it the best you also need to understand a part of physiology. But you have to study this in parts not as a whole.Which makes it hard, because I am a the whole picture person... Anyway, in my line of work we need to know our Anatomy and the functions there of; but the way we move and how we have adapted causes that some muscle are brought to the fore mo

Muscle Of The Week... Adductor Pollicis

Image
Hi There How are you experiencing this series? I must say I am actually enjoying this. It is almost like revising my university anatomy, only this time with less stress. I believe this is why I am having so much fun with this series. I am even incorporating The Muscle Of The Week in my programmes I design for my clients and athletes!! I hope you are learning more about the physical side you are constructed of. I am starting another series on my FaceBook Group #NeverStopMoving Q & A WEDNESDAY. Where YOU can ask me anything that has to do with movement and my personal blog!   On to this week's muscle... Adductor Pollicis This is the last muscle's name that start with "adductor". This also tells us that it is the muscle's main but NOT only function. Also by seeing the name it should tells us where the muscle is... Pollicis meaning Pollex which is thumb in latin. So we are talking about a muscle that adducts the thumb. Remember when talking about "car

Sport Science Testing

Image
Hi There  We are undergoing testing these upcoming weeks. This is the time I love to hate. I still love what I do, but the athletes are angsty about how they perform and what the results would mean for them and the team. The training also get influenced by this, because some try and gain all the components of fitness in that one single session before we test the next day!!  For me personally It means setting up the test and a whole lot of data that needs to be taken, processed, analyzed and reported. In other words a lot of paper work!!!! This is the part I don't like, but is the fundamental part I need to design programmes that really make a difference in my athletes' training. This is also how I not only evaluate them but also my quality of work. So the Pressure is on!! Testing is so important, because the feedback tells us where the programs weakness as well as strength lies and we as supporting staff can brainstorm to produce the best training strategy for our athlete

New Beginnings... Getting Personal

Image
Hi There  This blog was never meant to be a "Dear Diary" Blog. I did not want to post personal experiences and thoughts here. I want to inspire people to move and never stop. But the more I blog I realize that the way movement is a part of our being it is automatically personal. As soon as you move as a being it's personal, it is YOU. Also if you have been following this blog you would know I recently connected with my brother (Shout out to Greg and Chimera Dreams) and he just inspired me to keep pushing and moving on. He also challenged me to make #NeverStopMoving bigger than just post about movement but really to show you my passion. MY PASSION which is personal... Thus I decided to keep this blog as it is but the really passionate and personal "stuff" I will post on a different blog ( https://neverstopmovingceo.wordpress.com/). Please follow me there as well. I will be going more in detail about my passions and why I feel the way I do. Why I believe media

What I Believe About.... Sport Science 💞

Image
Hi There Welcome to the #BeliefSeries! This is where I share my core beliefs about certain topics. You are welcome to comment and leave a topic to be discussed. The #Belief Series  features Tuesdays and Thursday! Onward to today's topic... Sport Science. I love Sport Science. I love the fact that there is a science behind gaining better performance. There is a knowledge much greater than just the "dumb jock" building muscle to look good or just be eye candy for those who do not understand the sport!!! What I even love more about my field is that we still do not understand half of what has been published, researched and still being studied. To be honest I don't think we will ever understand movement in its full capacity and I think it is ok. We do not need to. If we do I think some of our wonder and amazement will disappear. I also believe that we as humans move consciously. We can think about and adapt our movement in a pattern that took conscious thought!! We do n

What I Believe About... Movement

Image
Hi There  I am starting a series where I will be writing about my core beliefs about movement, certain movement types etc. These posts will be published Tuesdays and Thursdays. I want to encourage you to submit questions on my beliefs or even if you want to know what I believe about something. Just leave your requests in the comment section below. That said. Let's start with today's topic. My favorite. Movement. I almost want to skip this part because I pretty sure I have said this before. I love movement. I really do believe we were made to move. We were made to enjoy movement, we find joy in movement. This is my core belief.  Life is movement. Movement is one of the characteristics of life... I belief that movement is within us. It is life!!!  The only challenge is to master it. Which I believe is totally possible! We just need to change our mindset about what the media lets us believe about being healthy. We need to know what our goals are and remember we are unique, t

Getting Personal - What We Think And How We Think Plays a HUGE Role

Image
Hi There😏 This last few weeks has been out of this world. I have grown and take some risks I would not have done in the past!! The most incredible thing is I am... wait for it... at ease! The studio is open and now it is time to get people moving!!! Do not get me wrong I have been working toward this step for a year! I have been stressing and pushing to get here. I know the work is not done, but looking back I see the path I have moved to get here and I can not believe it!! Through this entire journey I have realized my passion and how close to movement I am. Movement is fluid, it does not have a direction unless a force works upon it.  I want to encourage you to move, the more we move physically we start moving with our entire being. I really do believe we were made to move. We were made to enjoy movement, we find joy in movement. This is my core believe and what #NeverStopMoving is all about! It is about getting everybody to move and enjoy life fully!! I want everybody to

Getting Personal... Again... Putting Too Much Pressure On Yourself

Image
Hi There  Why do we always think negative first?  I consider myself a pretty positive person, but I also think and tend to focus on all that can go wrong instead of going right. There are so many things that need to fall in place and you know what? I am stressing about what could go wrong!! That means I am stressing about stuff that has not happened yet!!!! How crazy is that!!! I am literally wasting time and negatively impacting my health and people around me!!! On purpose!!  Easier said than done, but we need to breathe. Prepare for negative things but focus on the positive. Not put pressure on yourself, the world puts enough pressure on us. We do not have to add to that!   . Keep Moving until ne xt time 👋
