Mind Over Mind: Knowing what to focus on.

Hi There The year is coming to end and I am putting in a lot of thought into next year's challenges. I am also  reflecting on this year  . This was quite a year so much has happened.  I think it is important to keep in mind where we place our focus. This plays a huge role on our motivation. Just like with all things. The mind can be our worst enemy or our best friend. We can work with our body or against it. Knowing where to place our focus and how is going to make the journey quicker and more empowering!!  This time of year  don't just make goal and focus on where you want to be, rather start focussing on HOW you are going to get there. Where it begins

HI There This is a special blog. One of my clients that read my blogs asked me where my fascination with movement lies. I always seem to talk about movement in the present and future and not so much from where it begins. I usually only address it as Life Is Movement. It is one of the 8 characteristics of life.  So this blog is dedicated to where movement begins. Why my world revolves around it. For conception to take place we need the sperm to move to the ovum. From there it needs to enter (through movement) the ovum for conception to take place. I am not going to go to deep in the biology and physiology of this process but basically a lot movement takes place in the whole process. Cells divide and multiply and a fetus is formed. We even move in the womb. We never stop moving from the beginning and it took movement for us to exist.  Through growth (movement in a different form) we expand our knowledge, skills and experiences through movement. Movement dictates our destinies. When

#StayReal

Hi There  I am going to go on a rant here...  This is why I despise the media and the way they "sell" exercise! They are LYING TO YOU!!! There is NO pill that is going to make you lose weight without YOU changing SOMETHING in your lifestyle. There is a reason you are where you are health wise, weight wise, mentally etc. This is why we lose the weight and gain it all back most of the time even more.   Worst is that we know it!!! We are just accustomed to instant gratification. We do not want to wait! Sorry but it is not how it works... You have to do the work... No magic here .. . The magic is within YOU. Start doing it for YOU. No other reason, because it is going to get hard. You are not all of a sudden going to love cardio... The mind needs to change. This is why I call it movement. The Obstacles We Create

Hi There  An Obstacle is defined by Google as a thing that blocks one's way or prevents or hinders progress. That pretty much says it all. Isn't  funny that we love obstacle courses? I mean it is a sport. It is almost as if our species cannot accept an easy way to achieve certain goals! Think about it... Some people just see obstacles others see challenges. Attitude is the only  difference.  I believe we sometimes create our own obstacles. We do this out of fear, obsession end various other feelings, but the important thing is we create them. Which mean we can overcome them. We are the mastermind behind them!! A good example of this is when trying to incorporate movement into one's life... I don't have time, it is hard, I look stupid... All obstacles we created.There is always a way. The obstacles that we create are usually subjective not objective so in other words inflated... by you. It all come down to YOU. Are you going to be blocked by our own insecurities. Or

It Is OK To Rest

Hi There  It is getting close to the end of the year. Depending on where you live, holiday season is upon us! The year has flown by! So many new adventures began and some are starting and... some are ending.  Isn't is amazing that we can have all three at the same time with different or even the same aspects of our lives! This is the complex beings we are! I absolutely love the complicated mess we are and at the same time organized!! Most of us start shutting down this time of year. We just want to finish, does not matter how as long as we finish.  I just want to say one thing. We must remember we are not perfect beings, we cannot do everything perfect. We strive for this and personally I believe this is why we are seeing the increase of burn out- even in our kids! Society makes us believe we need to be perfect in every aspect and way in our life. Movement should always have direction. Does not matter what the direction of movement, it just needs intention... Movement is action. And as we all know. ... Why So SERIOUS?

Hi There  Today is an absolutely beautiful day!! I love day like these... Birds chirping, sun shining, cold drinks ans just summer all around!! I love it! I realized that everyone around me looks... grumpy, busy and down. Problem is that we all are busy, but we need to look out of our normal view and expanded to more than just what is next on my list... Look at the birds in the trees, hear them. We are so serious... All the time!!! We take everything serious. We get easily offended....Because we are so serious. This also increases our stress levels, which is not good for our health! So my advise today is to figuratively to let your hair down and just be... Dance around with your loved ones and be a bit silly. What It Takes To Call Yourself An Athlete

Hi There Not everyone can be an athlete or even wants to be an athlete. Now for some clarification. When I talk about Athlete I am referring to a person training for a sport and competing on an international level or at least trying to get in to the international scene, but nationally he/she is on top of the ranks.They are professionals. Before I get into trouble people participating in sport, but that are not as the above mentioned, are amateur athletes and there is nothing with that. They are the people that keep the sport and passion alive. In their pool the Pro athletes emerges.  An Athlete is not a normal person. An Athlete does not eat, sleep, train the same as a normal person. They push their bodies to where normal people usually get uncomfortable and stop. They do this in a controlled fashion and with help from their coaches and sport scientists, sport doctors and physio's. Their whole life revolves around training, training to win, be the best. Patience is A Virtue... We All Hate

Hi There  Patience is something we do well. Especially in today's lifestyle. We are rushed at work, we rush to get the kids to their activities, before and after school. Then it is homework, housework and prep work for the next day. Where did you take a breath? Where did you have a chance to laugh and play with the kids?  I think we do not even comprehend what it means to be patient. I also believe this is why we fail when we try new things. You want to learn how to draw, you suck, you stop... within a week or two. We want to become fit, so we run a 10k, when we never even ran 5km! We want to lose weight, so eat less, starve for a week, nothing's changed so we give up.  We want it all now. I totally get this because we are use to getting instant gratification. We don't wait for things we use to. For example before Netflix we had to wait an entire week for the next episode, now we wait 20 seconds and lets be honest you never just watch one episode... Hi There Sorry for disappearing. I was sick in a bad way!! But here I am better and ready for action.  As I mentioned before this is usually a stressful time for most of us. I think it is important to remember to even though we have a lot on our plate; we need to rest. If we do not our bodies will force us and this is not good. It is not healthy to push the body to this limit.  We need to learn to communicate with our bodies. Get the brain and body talk the same language. We need to listen to the body, just like the body has to listen to the brain. The brain should be in charge but should also instinctively know to where the body can be pushed in any aspect of life. Literally every aspect of our being. This is what makes the brain-body relationship very delicate. It is hard to cultivate and this is the very essence of where movement patterns need to change, where conscious thought needs to enter the relationship. It all begins with what we think! Hi There  Today I want to talk about depression. It is a very real problem in our society. One that does not get spoken a lot. It flares up when we hear about a suicide of a celeb or some young teenager. Then after the buzz is over it is swept under the rug. I think a big part of the problem is that we don't understand what it is, how it works, just that it  exists. I think the only people who can come close to explain it are those suffering from it. They can not tell why but they can enlighten those who are not affected. You see because it has to do with feeling we find it hard to articulate and carry it over, but together we can create a language. Because everybody feels low sometimes and go through emotional rollercoasters, but depression is different. I think it is time to move out of the darkness and talk without judgement.  Movement can help with depression, but the motivation to move is the problem. You want to but feel like lead. From Zemblanity to Serendipity

Hi There  Does anyone feel this way or is it just me... I mean I am suffering with zemblanity... It is almost the end of the year and it feels like I haven't really met all my goals and the time left to achieve them or at least start on them and I would rather not know and not feel like a failure. This is what really gets me going. We automatic focus on the negative!! Instead of looking at it a bit differently. Like what we achieved this year. Maybe you did not lose the weight you wanted, but you started to look after yourself, you started to change your mindset and remember to be healthy is a journey not a destination!!! A Never Ending... Journey

Hi There  This is the time of the year I love to hate. Everyone is restless and tired at the same time. They want the big holiday, but then realize how much still needs to be done. It is also the time that everybody wants the bikini body for December. Problem is that a summer body is made in the winter. There really is no quick fix to being healthy, feeling and looking good. It is a process. Ironically it never stops! We go on a journey with our being and we discover new elements of ourselves. New Beginnings... Getting Personal

Hi There  This blog was never meant to be a "Dear Diary" Blog. I did not want to post personal experiences and thoughts here. I want to inspire people to move and never stop. But the more I blog I realize that the way movement is a part of our being it is automatically personal. As soon as you move as a being it's personal, it is YOU. Getting Personal... Moving towards A Better Future

Hi There  Guess what... It looks like writing is in the family!!  These last few months has been... how can I put it... Tough? You know I am going into a new business venture and the progress is slow and it is just me pushing this big idea forward and it feels like just can't. If this was in a training concept. I'll be like " I know this is tough but you need to push through... This is where the muscles are really being tested just keep going". But now that it is in the concept of my business it sounds so much harder... I'll rather do the physical training. But this is my point. It feels the same but it is totally different. If we strengthen the mind in one aspect/concept we can apply it in every and any other situation. Believe it or not your goal is the difference of how you train. Your goal is the science in exercise. That is the secret. Movement and the how and why behind it is what makes us different. We all move. We kind of have to to be considered alive. Like I've said before movement is life.  A goal is precise but permeable.  That is why our goal should be clear and well defined and yes, planned. When we make career goals we have a set plan, we "train"  for that goal. Why would this be different when we creating goals for our body or health? A goal should also be realistic. The #Belief Series  features Tuesdays and Thursday! Today's topic was inspired by a reader that commented. So here goes. Visualization is an interesting topic. I do believe it is important. I believe that visualization has a place in our training, goal setting. But again it has a part. It is not the be all and end all. I can not "see" myself healthy but I do not "do" anything it is useless. To me it plays a big role in goal setting. Working towards your vision. I also believe that it is a great tool to use during rehab for athlete's ect. It keeps the brain connected to the movement even if the limb is isolated or immovable. Again the power of the mind is what is at play.  I believe that visualization should be seen as a verb, not a noun. We need do DO something to MOVE toward the VISION.  I hop

Hi There  It is Monday. Just incase you do not know and I am just stating the obvious... Do you ever feel like you have so much to do you are constantly living in and for the future? Where you need to be in the next hour... What you need to do before and in that hour... What's for dinner? We totally forget to live in the present. We need to slow down and BE PRESENT in NOW with what and with who you are doing it. You will never have now again. Even if now seems to be repetitive is is still a now you will never have again. W isolate ourselves by living in the future and not being present. We are so focused on the future we are not living our lives. Life is passing us by and when we have what we pursued we realize we never really lived so many opportunities went and we were to busy to notice.  Live your life now. Be productive today. What I Believe About... Food!!!

I  do not believe in diets and HATE them, but I believe in BALANCE. If I eat let's call it "bad" today I will focus on eating better today and work out a bit harder than I usually do. I also balance how and what I eat with how and why I train/workout. I look at food as follows :We eat to survive not survive to eat. This helps me to discern why am I eating and how I am eating.    I believe food is there to fuel us and make movement possible. I believe that eating should be a joyful activity and that food brings people together.  I believe food should not cause bad feelings and should definitely not cause any anxiety. We should focus on making better choices tha

Movement should be apart of your daily routine

Hi There  We are all busy and have a lot on our plates, but I think it is time to look at our routines. Are we being busy or productive? Because to be honest it is easy to be busy, but it is hard being productive. Busy can be tiring and you never get anything done. Being productive means to complete your goal.  Think about it productive people always seem to have so much free time, they are never stress out all the time! Incorporating movement into your day helps burn off the stress and gives you more energy and blood flowing through the brain to focus on being productive!! As a mind shift I also recommend that we all stop saying we are busy, but that we start being productive and creative with our time!  Keep Moving until ne xt time 👋

There is a knowledge much greater than just the "dumb jock" building muscle to look good or just be eye candy for those who do not understand the sport!!! What I even love more about my field is that we still do not understand half of what has been published, researched and still being studied. To be honest I don't think we will ever understand movement in its full capacity and I think it is ok. We do not need to. If we do I think some of our wonder and amazement will disappear. In fact I believe that everyone should at least start with Pilates before they move on to other forms of exercise. I say this because Pilates teaches control over our movement. We consciously do every movement and at the same time learn the correct way to activate and deactivate muscles we were never aware af. We also learn how breathing plays a role in our movement.  Pilates is a great way to teach the body and mind to communicate; talk the same language!  It is very conducive for this process because of the focus that it takes and the environment is also more  relaxed.
