Muscle Of The Week... Aryepiglotticus

Hi There

 The body is amazing and very complex. If you have been following this series you can see that we truly are more then the sum of our parts, and we do have a lot of parts!! We are almost done with all the "A" muscles!!

 This week's muscle is another tough one. But before we go on this muscle is one of the muscles that helps us swallow. So it is located in our throats. On a side note: I love that this brings us back to how we are put together to survive and for me personally we are more than just muscle moving but we are also moving too

Getting Personal... Training Hard

Hi There I am sorry for disappearing... This last week was hectic. It reminded me of my humanity... I am going to get personal; but don't get use to it. This is not a "Dear Diary" blog. But I think it might help with what this blogging adventure of mine is about; which is to encourage and change our mindset on movement. I am not what you would call an typical athlete. In fact my body build and background does not "fit" the usual attributes of an athlete. That said, I love running. I do cross country competitively, but I compete only against myself. Do not... I repeat... DO NOT get overwhelmed!!

Hi There  This time of the year we try and get our "lives" in order and set up goals for ourselves. Sometimes we are even excited about all these challenges!! Other times we don't know where to start. This is how it usually goes...  You have never ran a KM, now you need to lose some weight...So you are going to run 5 km every morning...😲😵😨 You die trying and the next hour or day you are so stiff you can not function as a human being and no human likes torture let alone torturing themselves, so you stop and hate exercise... and thinks it does not work! Running can be substituted with any type of exercise activity...FYI  Sorry but that is WRONG and NO excuse. YOU did it WRONG!!! There is a science behind movement. Thus a process! As with EVERYTHING in life!!!! Do not get overwhelmed and push to hard! Start small and build on your successes!! Start with walking 15 min a day and build on it weekly... You might find that you enjoy it!!!  Again small steps...

Do I need a Personal Trainer?

Hi There  This is an awesome question! But the answer is tricky. As a Sport Scientist I do take on Personal Training clients. I approach them the same as I would any athlete, just with other goals (Remember the goal blog post? The difference is the goal; the why you are doing it).  Many of my Personal Training clients just need me to get them started. They don't need me to per se tell them what to do, but they need me to motivate, check on correct movement, making sure the body isn't taking short cuts etc. That is why I am there with them every session, not necessarily because they can not do it without me. In fact m y goal with ALL my clients is to educate them so that they don't need me to keep moving and reaching their goals. They know how to move safely and correctly.   This being said; I think if you have no movement experience then defiantly start with a personal trainer.
