Muscle Of The Week... Brachialis

Hi There I just want to take a step back and review what we have learnt so far. First the terminology and then the muscles we have discussed. Remember we just want to know where our muscles are and what function in our movement they play.  Terminology *Abduction/ Abduct- Movement away from the midline of the body  *Proximal- Closest point to the joint *Distal- Furthest point to the joint  *Brevis- Short  *Longus- Long *Inferior- Lower part  *Superior- Upper part  *Flexion- Minimising the angle of the joint  *Adduction- Movement towards the midline of the body  *Brachi- Arm Muscles we have done *Abductor Digiti Minimi of the Foot  *Abductor Digiti Minimi of the Hand *Abductor Hallucis  *Abductor Pollicis Brevis *Abductor Pollicis Longus   *Adductor Brevis *Adductor Hallucis *Adductor Longus *Adductor Magnus *Adductor Pollicis *Anconeus *Articularis Cubiti *Articularis Genu *Auricularis *Biceps Brachii *Biceps Femoris

It's...CHOOSEday!!!!!

Image
Hi There It is Chooseday Tuesday time! This time it is about choosing You or Others... For You or For Others!  Again we are focusing on abstract concepts. Which I love!!! I love it because it makes you think why you believe or behave the way you do!. Please feel free to also add to discussion by commenting below!  Firstly we need to decide what each of these concepts mean. What does for me mean? When do you do things for yourself purely for you. For me? What does for others mean? When and what do you do others? What makes you feel good? Doing things for others or yourself?  If you asked me this question a few months ago my answer would have been totally different. I would have said that you should do everything for others! They make you feel good. They validate you. Now I want to slap myself that I ever thought that!! I validate myself, I make myself feel good!! Not others!.  I believe that again do BOTH!!! Do things for yourself to grow and be healthy. If it needs be put yourself

Chooseday

Hi There It is Chooseday Tuesday time. The second instalment! Today we will talk about choosing the hard way or the smart way. Please feel free to also add to discussion by commenting below!  Hard  What is the hard way? What is considered hard? I mean what is hard for one person might not be for another. But for the purpose of this piece let us define "hard" as an abstract concept as it is.  Smart  Again we have an abstract concept. But I do believe that this has more of consistent meaning. What one sees as smart mostly means the same thing. Let's just say that it has to have ingenuity to be considered smart.    Now on to our tasks of deciding which is better. Can we do both? Like in last week? Can you do it the hard and smart way?  To be truly honest some things are both!  This was put before me by my Mentor. There is always a hard or smart way. The smart way may be hard, but the hard way is never smart.  Before I make a decision I always ask myself:&qu

Muscle Of The Week... Biceps Femoris

Image
Hi There This week's muscle is part of the Hammy Group.Affectionately known as the Hammys. But let me be clear. The Hammys are THREE SEPARATE muscles of which one is this week's muscle... The Biceps Femoris.By the name we know it has two "heads" or origins like last week's muscle: The Biceps Brachii  . I have to make a confession...I confused the Biceps Femoris with the Rectus Femoris; which is actually part of the Quads🙈🙊. That is why I love this series. It is a great way to review my anatomy. In a way that does not feel like studying. I mean I used to hate to study Anatomy... Especially because to understand it the best you also need to understand a part of physiology. But you have to study this in parts not as a whole.Which makes it hard, because I am a the whole picture person... Anyway, in my line of work we need to know our Anatomy and the functions there of; but the way we move and how we have adapted causes that some muscle are brought to the fore mo

Chooseday... Health or Wealth? 😏

Hi There I am introducing a new Series!!!! Chooseday Tuesday. This is where I will play two options against each other and choose which option is the best. Please feel free to also add to discussion by commenting below!  Health  Firstly, I believe we all define health or being healthy differently. To cut this out let's define Health.I just typed in "Health" in Google and this is what Google "said". health /hɛlθ noun noun:  health the state of being free from illness or injury. "he was restored to health" synonyms: good physical condition, healthiness,  fitness , physical fitness,  well-being , haleness, good trim, good shape, fine fettle, good kilter;  More antonyms: illness a person's mental or physical condition. "bad health forced him to retire" synonyms: state of health, physical state, physical health, physical shape,  condition ,  constitution ,  form "bad

Muscle Of The Week... Biceps Brachii

Image
Hi There Finally we have a muscle that most people have heard of and have an idea of where it is located!!! It is the muscle we use to show people our strength!💪Especially when we are young! Why, I am not sure. I believe it is because we do not usually have a lot of fat covering the muscle so it is easy to feel and see. The perception then is if it can be felt and see one is strong or lean.  I am excited to talk about a more "well-known" muscle!!! The Biceps Brachii has two heads, hence the name. It has two origin points.  Biceps Brachii   I have found a beautiful video explaining the muscle please click here to see it.  Common Injuries  Because of it where the Biceps Brachii has two origins and both pulls the arm in different ways/directions. It can play a role in rotator cuff injuries. These injuries can be any restriction the the 360° movement of the shoulder. It also can be any of the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint.  Another common Injury can be Bicep

Muscle Of The Week...Auricularis

Image
Hi There TIs week's muscles are a group of facial muscles. They are called Auricularis Anterior Auricularis Posterior and Auricularis Superior. They are placed under the Temporal Muscle.  Now remember the goal here is to know where and what the muscle does not to become an anatomy expert. This is also our last muscle starting with A!!! Here is a quick list of the muscles we have doone! Abductor digiti minimi of the Foot  Abductor digiti minimi of the Hand Abductor hallucis Abductor pollicis brevis  Abductor pollicis longus Adductor brevis Adductor hallucis Adductor longus Adductor magnus Adductor pollicis Anconeus Articularis cubiti Articularis genu Aryepiglotticus ...Auricularis this week's Muscle!! Quick Question! Which of the listed is attached on the Femur (Thigh Bone) and is the largest muscle of this group? Please leave your answer in the comments below!! Auricularis These muscles helps with our facial expressions! There are

Muscle Of The Week... Aryepiglotticus

Hi There The body is amazing and very complex. If you have been following this series you can see that we truly are more then the sum of our parts, and we do have a lot of parts!! We are almost done with all the "A" muscles!! This week's muscle is another tough one. But before we go on this muscle is one of the muscles that helps us swallow. So it is located in our throats. On a side note: I love that this brings us back to how we are put together to survive and for me personally we are more than just muscle moving but we are also moving too  Aryepiglotticus Follow link for a video   for the anatomy of the larynx .  Please follow the links to see my sources. I want to give credit to all of them. Keep Moving until ne xt time 👋

Muscle Of The Week... Articularis Cubit

Image
Hi There This week's muscle is a tough one. It is a small and weird one. Some might even call it more of a ligament than a muscle. Others believe it is part of the Tricep Brachii  muscle. But I have linkes videos and articles to further your understanding.  Articularis Cubit Origin: Beep distal surface of the medial head of the Tricep Brachii  Insertion: Posterior capsule of the elbow joint.  The function of Articularis Cubit Lifts capsule away from the joint  Follow link for a video   for the anatomy of the elbow joint .  Most common injuries :  Tennis or Golfers' Elbow (Epicondylitis) Dislocation of the joint  Please follow the links to see my sources. I want to give credit to all of them. Keep Moving until ne xt time 👋
