Muscle Of The Week...Auricularis

Image
Hi There TIs week's muscles are a group of facial muscles. They are called Auricularis Anterior Auricularis Posterior and Auricularis Superior. They are placed under the Temporal Muscle.  Now remember the goal here is to know where and what the muscle does not to become an anatomy expert. This is also our last muscle starting with A!!! Here is a quick list of the muscles we have doone! Abductor digiti minimi of the Foot  Abductor digiti minimi of the Hand Abductor hallucis Abductor pollicis brevis  Abductor pollicis longus Adductor brevis Adductor hallucis Adductor longus Adductor magnus Adductor pollicis Anconeus Articularis cubiti Articularis genu Aryepiglotticus ...Auricularis this week's Muscle!! Quick Question! Which of the listed is attached on the Femur (Thigh Bone) and is the largest muscle of this group? Please leave your answer in the comments below!! Auricularis These muscles helps with our facial expressions! There are

Muscle Of The Week... Aryepiglotticus

Hi There The body is amazing and very complex. If you have been following this series you can see that we truly are more then the sum of our parts, and we do have a lot of parts!! We are almost done with all the "A" muscles!! This week's muscle is another tough one. But before we go on this muscle is one of the muscles that helps us swallow. So it is located in our throats. On a side note: I love that this brings us back to how we are put together to survive and for me personally we are more than just muscle moving but we are also moving too  Aryepiglotticus Follow link for a video   for the anatomy of the larynx .  Please follow the links to see my sources. I want to give credit to all of them. Keep Moving until ne xt time 👋

Muscle Of The Week... Articularis Genu

Hi There This week's muscle is a tough one again... It is so small but not less important. It is a stabilizing muscle so that is it's function. It is also situated in the knee. I can not add to this, But we have learned that the knee is a complicated joint with lots of working parts! Another Word we can add to our medical vocabulary ... Genu- which means Knee Articularis Genu  Also I want to give an idea of where the muscle is and what it's functions are. I understand not everybody wants to know anatomy and such, but my goal is not to teach you anatomy but just provide a bit more information of the muscles.  Thank You  Keep Moving until ne xt time 👋

Muscle Of The Week... Articularis Cubit

Image
Hi There This week's muscle is a tough one. It is a small and weird one. Some might even call it more of a ligament than a muscle. Others believe it is part of the Tricep Brachii  muscle. But I have linkes videos and articles to further your understanding.  Articularis Cubit Origin: Beep distal surface of the medial head of the Tricep Brachii  Insertion: Posterior capsule of the elbow joint.  The function of Articularis Cubit Lifts capsule away from the joint  Follow link for a video   for the anatomy of the elbow joint .  Most common injuries :  Tennis or Golfers' Elbow (Epicondylitis) Dislocation of the joint  Please follow the links to see my sources. I want to give credit to all of them. Keep Moving until ne xt time 👋

Muscle Of The Week... Anconeus

Image
Hi There Since last week's muscle was the last of the adductor name groups. I think a quick recap of what we have learnt thus far. Terminology *Abduction/ Abduct *Proximal *Distal *Brevis *Longus *Inferior *Flexion *Adduction Muscles we have done *Abductor Digiti Minimi of the Foot  *Abductor Digiti Minimi of the Hand *Abductor Hallucis  *Abductor Pollicis Brevis *Abductor Pollicis Longus   *Adductor Brevis *Adductor Hallucis *Adductor Longus *Adductor Magnus *Adductor Pollicis Muscles Of The Week... Anconeus. KenHub explains the Anconeus as follows ": The Anconeus muscle is a small, triangular muscle located at the elbow. It originates at the dorsal (back) side of the lateral epicondyle of the humerus and inserts at the olecranon of the ulna. The Anconeus lies superficially and can be palpated at the dorsal, lateral side of the forearm near the elbow. The Anconeus contraction leads to extension of the forearm,

Muscle Of The Week... Adductor Pollicis

Hi There How are you experiencing this series? I must say I am actually enjoying this. It is almost like revising my university anatomy, only this time with less stress. I believe this is why I am having so much fun with this series. I am even incorporating The Muscle Of The Week in my programmes I design for my clients and athletes!! I hope you are learning more about the physical side you are constructed of. I am starting another series on my FaceBook Group #NeverStopMoving Q & A WEDNESDAY. Where YOU can ask me anything that has to do with movement and my personal blog!   On to this week's muscle... Adductor Pollicis This is the last muscle's name that start with "adductor". This also tells us that it is the muscle's main but NOT only function. Also by seeing the name it should tells us where the muscle is... Pollicis meaning Pollex which is thumb in latin. So we are talking about a muscle that adducts the thumb. Remember when talking about "car

The Muscle Of The Week...Adductor Magnus

Image
Hi There I am so excited about this week's muscle!! Why, because I believe it is one of the most injury prone muscles that we underestimate! I also believe that we can lessen this "proneness to injury" by stretching this group, namely: Adductor Brevis, Adductor Longest and this week's Adductor Magnus . You see when we move these muscles,it is usually one direction within a joint that can and should be able to move multi- directional. Think about. The hip joInt is multi- directional, but when do we actually open the joint? We walk, run and cycle in one direction. it is rarely where we open the joint, when we do it is usually done quick and the groin gets injured. Thus I believe stretching this group should be implemented in every program for absolutely everybody.   Any Questions?  Adductor Magnus Origin: Ramus of the Ischium, Inferior Pubic Ramus, Tuberosity of the Ischium  . Insertion: Linea Aspera, Adductor Tubercle.  The function of Adducto

Muscle of The Week...Adductor Longus

Image
Hi There We are back at it!! Terminology  We have learnt the following  *Abduction/ Abduct *Proximal *Distal *Brevis *Longus *Inferior *Flexion *Adduction Muscles we have done *Abductor Digiti Minimi of the Foot  *Abductor Digiti Minimi of the Hand *Abductor Hallucis  *Abductor Pollicis Brevis *Abductor Pollicis Longus   All the above muscles main function is Abduction.  *Adductor Brevis  *Adductor Hallucis   These muscles main function is adduction. Adductor Longus Origin: Pubic Symphysis, Superior Pubic Ramus  . Insertion: Linea Aspera.  The function of Adductor Longus:  Flexion  f the thigh Stabilization of the Pelvis  Adduction of the thigh Extension of the  thigh Follow link for a video   for the anatomy of Adductor Longus . .  Most common injuries:  Groin injuries. This type of injury is very painful and awkward. Most athletes get groin strains. This is why stretching

Muscle Of The Week... Abductor Pollicis Longus

Hi There We are busy with all the ABductor muscles. This means muscles that pulls movement away from the mid line of the body! Abduct- The smart way to clarify any movement that is done away from the mid line of the body or extremity. Easy way to remember is that aliens abduct humans FROM earth TO space. So the movement we are carrying out moves away FROM the midline TO where the movement takes place.  I also think of a Jumping Jack to explain this movement. As we jump out with out legs and swing arm open and over we are abducting the legs and arms. Proximal means  nearest point the joint  Distal means furthers point from the joint This week we add Brevis to the list of descriptive words in anatomy. Brevis is the Latin word that means "short" and this brings us to Longus, which ; you've guessed it..."long". Our list so far: Abduction,Proximal,Distal,Brevis...and Longus!!  Remember professionals need a language that can be understood internationall

Muscle Of The Week... Abductor Digiti Minimi of the Foot

Image
Hi There I want to apologize for missing last week's Muscle Of The Week (again...), but we have a lot of muscles to cover and I would like to go through all of them! This is an overwhelming ask!! We have so many muscles and ALL of them play a role in our movement! I have decided that working alphabetically might be a better way of navigating the muscles! For the brain and body to talk to one another. They need to speak the same language.  For this to happen we need to be conscious  of where the movement originates and what needs to be done. During my time with clients and athletes I have realized that most of them have little to none body awareness.  Now let me be clear. You do not need to understand or have in- depth knowledge to have good body awareness, but it helps tremendously when you at least know where the muscle is and how it works.  So during this series I am going to try and keep it simple. I will provide you with what I deem credible sources that I use/d during my stud

DO NOT make New Year's Resolutions

Image
Hi There!!!! Long time no... read? 😕 Anyway, I hope you all had a great festive season and took the time to rest. Remember recovery is important in training thus in our daily lives even more. Today I want to talk about resolutions... Yes, we all make them, we even resolute to not make resolutions!! But we do.  In my personal blog I talk about  #OneWord . Click on the link to read about my #OneWord2017. Also check out my blog for #MyOneWord2018 ! I really believe in this way of doing "resolutions". We are creatures of habit. We pick up habits way more, than breaking them. We all know how challenging this is. This is also the reason why we usually fail. When we try to change too much we fail, but if we change in steps we succeed. Think about it. Everything is done in steps. It has a process.  This is what I want to tell you today. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT make the New Year's Resolution of losing weight!!!! Not only is it a cleshay, but it usually doesn't become

It Is OK To Rest

Image
Hi There  It is getting close to the end of the year. Depending on where you live, holiday season is upon us! The year has flown by! So many new adventures began and some are starting and... some are ending.  Isn't is amazing that we can have all three at the same time with different or even the same aspects of our lives! This is the complex beings we are! I absolutely love the complicated mess we are and at the same time organized!! Most of us start shutting down this time of year. We just want to finish, does not matter how as long as we finish.  I just want to say one thing. We must remember we are not perfect beings, we cannot do everything perfect. We strive for this and personally I believe this is why we are seeing the increase of burn out- even in our kids! Society makes us believe we need to be perfect in every aspect and way in our life. THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE. It should be our vision NOT our goal. What is the difference? "A vision is an unreachable ideal, a goa

From Zemblanity to Serendipity

Image
Hi There  Does anyone feel this way or is it just me... I mean I am suffering with zemblanity... It is almost the end of the year and it feels like I haven't really met all my goals and the time left to achieve them or at least start on them and I would rather not know and not feel like a failure. This is what really gets me going. We automatic focus on the negative!! Instead of looking at it a bit differently. Like what we achieved this year. Maybe you did not lose the weight you wanted, but you started to look after yourself, you started to change your mindset and remember to be healthy is a journey not a destination!!! So let us find serendipity in what we have achieved this far and we still have some time left.  Keep Moving until ne xt time 👋

What I Believe About... Goals and Goal Setting

Image
Hi There Welcome to the #BeliefSeries! This is where I share my core beliefs about certain topics. You are welcome to comment and leave a topic to be discussed. The #Belief Series  features Tuesdays and Thursday! Today's topic... Goals and goal setting. This is another topic close to my heart. I get so... passionate... about this topic. Believe it or not your goal is the difference of how you train. Your goal is the science in exercise. That is the secret. Movement and the how and why behind it is what makes us different. We all move. We kind of have to to be considered alive. Like I've said before movement is life.  A goal is precise but permeable.  That is why our goal should be clear and well defined and yes, planned. When we make career goals we have a set plan, we "train"  for that goal. Why would this be different when we creating goals for our body or health? A goal should also be realistic. This BEING REALISTIC is where the trouble comes in when we are ma
